The Role of the Utility: Purchasing the Power and Balancing the Distribution Grid
Local renewable energy projects often require a power purchase agreement with the electrical distribution utility to obtain financing, and the utility must then integrate relatively small amounts of variable power into the electricity grid. This panel will discuss these challenges from the utility perspective.

Grid of the Future: How Emerging Policy Trends Could Affect Localized Renewable Energy in the Coming Years
California has innovative and aggressive policies to modernize the electric grid and boost renewable energy deployment. Although past policies have focused mainly on utility-scale projects, the future of electric energy supplies looks more localized, in light of new state laws promoting investment in smart grid, energy storage, and demand response technologies and Governor Brown’s 12,000 megawatts of distributed generation goal. Panelists will discuss these trends and how they will affect electricity markets in the coming years.
